We created several spaces within the dementia ward at King’s Mill that offered a real sense of nostalgia. When King’s Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire enhanced its dementia ward, Woodland, they wanted to create an environment that was both safe and familiar. The brief was to create areas which could aid reminiscence and help to calm and/or stimulate patients when necessary.
Never before have we incorporated such a wide range of the products that we offer into a dementia friendly environment scheme. This included wall murals, Kodak digital displays, 1950s style TV, digital fish tank and window graphics. We also incorporated a first for us, a nostalgia display. This ran along the length of a corridor and featured a range of iconic images from the 50s and 60s onwards including the Queen’s coronation, sport, music and movie images and old photos from the local area.

New Vision worked closely with our clinical teams to ensure that patient and staff experience was at the core of their designs. Close working with our contractors and project managers also supported the successful completion of our project – on schedule and on budget.”
