Dementia Action Week

Sharing our dementia environment experience for Dementia Action Week 2019

This week is Dementia Action Week, a campaign that aims to unite people, workplaces and communities to help improve the lives of people living with dementia. We think this is a fantastic way for all people to learn more about how they can help people living with dementia navigate everyday life.

We obviously work with healthcare professionals who are already very aware of dementia and the adjustments required, but there is always something that we can learn. Our experience is particularly focused in the area of interior design, signage and display and because it’s quite niche, we think we have some valuable insights that care professionals can benefit from.

That’s why we’ve put together our best tips for implementing dementia friendly guidelines within this particular area of expertise that we have. We’ll be posting one every day throughout Dementia Action Week on our Twitter and Facebook profiles. We’ll also publish a round-up of all 7 tips here on the blog at the end of the week.

As it’s the first day of Dementia Action Week today we can reveal our first tip here, and it’s about something that’s very close to our hearts: wayfinding.

Tip 1:

Use images as well as text on signage. DO make sure the image is representative of what you will find in that area but DON’T make them too child-like, garish or patronising: signage can be aesthetically pleasing as well as dementia friendly

Remember, keep checking Twitter and Facebook for the rest of our tips. Follow the hashtag #dementiaactionweek for all DAW related content throughout the week.
